PRESIDENT

Rick became interested in birds while in college studying to become an English teacher. He learned about local bird species in his free time, and after graduation, Rick moved to Colombia to serve in the Peace Corps. Among the rich biodiversity, his fascination with birds naturally took flight. In the years since his return, Rick has built a career in elementary education, while also becoming increasingly passionate about birds and habitat conservation along the way. These days Rick enjoys birding solo, with friends, and on annual surveys like Christmas Bird Counts and raptor watches. He also visits other states and countries in pursuit of firsthand experiences with new species. To Rick, the joy of birding is about exploring the outdoors, learning about the natural world, appreciating its diverse beauty, and joining in the unique fellowship of birders. As board president of Fresno Audubon Society, Rick hopes to help others nurture their curiosity and passion for nature. He believes that together we can strengthen and expand a community that shares the joy of birds and birding.
