Judy was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. She escaped to sunny California to attend Graduate school at UCSF in San Francisco where she also fell in love with the great California outdoors. After receiving a Ph.D. in Microbiology, she served as a Post-doctoral fellow at the California State Department of Public Health in Berkeley, and was then recruited to Fresno to work as the Director of the Microbiology Lab at Valley Medical Center. When VMC closed, she went on to a second career being a college professor, teaching Microbiology at Fresno State. Judy is a volunteer for many organizations including Poverello House, San Joaquin River Parkway, Fresno Philharmonic, and San Joaquin Valley Town Hall, to name just a few. Passionate about the environment, she is involved in Citizens’ Climate Lobby and the Climate Reality Project. Judy is a travelholic and has volunteered in India and Cambodia and traveled to innumerable other countries. She is a member of 3 book groups and also enjoys hiking and pickleball. She discovered birding later in life and is now addicted.
